Back-to-School Shopping is Far From Over

According to a recent polling by the National Retail Foundation, the typical back-to-school shopper hasn't even finished purchasing half of his or her list this year. This is good news for college campus marketing. 

Marketing Daily reports that these shoppers aren't procrastinating, they just seem to be in no hurry to finish their shopping. In fact, only 28.5% of college shoppers say they've yet to start - down from 31.1% this time last year. And almost unbelievably, only 45% of college shoppers say they are finished with back-to-school shopping. 

Total spending is expected to reach $83 billion for back-to-school, but shoppers appear to be waiting for sales on needed items. Retailers should pay attention because this can be an indicator of "sale shopping" during the upcoming holiday season, meaning buyers could wait for deals or shop at stores offering better prices at the end of this year.

Mobile and online continue to play an ever-increasing role in shopping for back-to-school with 34.6% of college students claiming they will finish their shopping this way.
